Wayan Balinese Restaurant

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

Geelong seems to shut down after about 8pm in the middle of week, so it was a pleasant to surprise to discover Wayan Balinese Restaurant (82A Lt Malop St, Geelong) open at 8.30pm on a Tuesday night.

Given the day of the week, the time of the evening, and the slightly obscure Little Malop Street location is a bit out of the way, it was doing well to have four tables taken at this time. Based on the quality of the food though, it deserves to do well. We ordered two different chicken ‘curries’, which actually ended up being the same dish, except one had broccoli and carrot rather than potato. The coconut-based sauce was very tasty (apart from the hair), and the thigh meat was reasonably free of fat.

Prices are reasonable, for both food and drinks. There’s a small selection of local wines, and even a very good local beer (Lonsdale Lager).

Despite only two staff handling both cooking and waiting, service was relatively fast, if a little (okay, a lot) awkward.
